The Challenge

The 2020 Southwest Transit Authority Board report presented the need for a unique solution to rural transportation. Lack of access to affordable transportation options makes it difficult for people to connect with their communities.

A Solution

Project : Village Car Share

In 2021, the Climate Action and Awareness Fund through Environment and Climate Change Canada funded a new sustainable transportation system for our rural communities in southwestern New Brunswick.

Project : Village Car Share is designed to use 4 electric vehicles (EVs) to empower individuals to get to where they need to go. This is one piece of the greater transportation puzzle and we work closely with community partners to help build a better rural transportation network.

Our car-share service is officially available to all community members 24/7 and can be accessed through our ride booking system - the SAUVéR platform.

Charlotte Dial-A-Ride Partnership

Charlotte Dial-A-Ride has been operating as a not-for-profit transportation service throughout Charlotte County since 2005. Charlotte Dial-A-Ride provides safe, courteous, and affordable transportation for residents of Charlotte County through a membership system that aligns rider needs with volunteer drivers. The organization has provided over 80,000 rides since its inception and currently has over 200 members supported by a team of 24 volunteer drivers. Rides are provided for health appointments, access to work and education, grocery shopping, and social events, such as exercise classes. In 2021, Charlotte Dial-A-Ride has added a wheelchair-accessible car to its support system allowing the transportation of members in their wheelchairs.

Project : Village Car Share is proud to partner with Charlotte Dial-A-Ride to optimize our services and extend our reach as two organizations working together to ensure affordable, safe transportation options are available to all. Our collaborative partnership with Charlotte Dial-A-Ride allows us to address primary transportation concerns together such as the first-last mile problems, the provision of reliable transport mediums, and designated drivers.

Charlotte Dial-A-Ride is an amazing organization that relies on a robust network of volunteer drivers. If you are interested in volunteering your time and vehicle to help community members who have difficulty accessing rides, please visit their website.

Both organizations are striving to make Charlotte County a wonderful place to live and grow by strengthening our connections one drive at a time! The collaborative partnership between Project: Village Car Share and Charlotte Dial-a-Ride provide an exciting opportunity to expand transportation support for people who do not have easy access to reliable and affordable transportation, as well as for those who want to reduce their carbon footprint through access to electric vehicles.

Connect with Charlotte Dial-A-Ride for volunteering opportunities.
